A man identified as Chiran was arrested after he ignited a fire at a petrol pump in Hyderabad’s Nacharam area on Saturday evening, reportedly following a dare by a petrol station employee. The incident occurred around 7 pm when Chiran, who was visibly intoxicated, arrived at the petrol pump with a lighter in hand.
According to officials, an employee named Arun provoked Chiran, challenging him to light the device if he “had the guts.” In response, Chiran lit the lighter while Arun was fueling a scooter, causing a sudden burst of flames. The fire led to chaos, with around 10-11 people, including a woman and child, narrowly escaping harm as they fled the scene, as captured in CCTV footage.
The Nacharam Police, led by Inspector G Rudvir Kumar, took swift action, arresting both Chiran and Arun. “This dangerous act not only put lives at risk but could have caused a catastrophic explosion, especially in this crowded area,” said Inspector Kumar. Both men, who hail from Bihar, face charges of mischief by fire and explosives and will be presented in court.
