A shocking case from Turkey has drawn widespread attention. The incident caused global anger and disgust after the news spread of a 15-year-old workshop apprentice who died five days after being subjected to a brutal workplace prank involving a high-pressure air hose by his coworkers at a carpentry workshop in the Bozova district of Urfa.
Incident at Wood Workshop
The tragedy occurred on November 14 in a wood workshop in Bozova, Sanliurfa, where the victim, Muhammed Kendirci, was working as an apprentice. According to reports, he was allegedly harassed by coworker Habip Aksoy and another unidentified individual. The accused tied the teenager’s hands and pulled down his trousers, claiming the act was a joke.
Deadly Attack with Air Hose
The assailants then reportedly inserted a compressed air hose into his rectum and released high-pressure air. This caused a severe internal blast, damaging Kendirci’s intestines and several other internal organs. The injuries were so serious that he immediately fell critically ill.
Hospitalization and Death
As soon as Kendirci got severe injuries, witnesses called emergency services. He was initially taken to a state hospital but due to the severity of his condition, he was moved to the Harran University Research and Training Hospital, where he was placed in intensive care. Despite medical intervention, Kendirci succumbed to his injuries. Emergency medical teams rushed Kendirci to Bozova Mehmet Enver Yildirim State Hospital. Due to the gravity of his condition, he was later transferred twice first to Balikligol State Hospital and then to Harran University Research and Application Hospital. He remained in intensive care for five days, but despite doctors’ efforts, he died on November 19.
Police Action and Legal Response
Police launched an investigation and initially detained Aksoy. He was first released under judicial supervision, but this decision was overturned after an appeal. A new warrant was issued, and he has now been formally remanded in custody. Authorities are still searching for the second person involved in the assault.
Public Outrage and Larger Concerns
The incident has triggered nationwide outrage and renewed debate on workplace safety, the exploitation of children in labor environments, and the dangerous culture of violent “pranks” that often go unchallenged. Reports also highlight that this is not the first time such high-pressure air hose attacks have been reported, with similar cases occurring globally among both minors and adults.
