In a distressing incident from the Kankerkheda area of Meerut, police have registered a case against two women accused of setting five stray puppies on fire. Authorities said the two women, Shobha and Aarti, both residents of Sant Nagar Colony, allegedly poured petrol over the puppies and set them alight on November 5. According to locals, the women were reportedly frustrated by the noise made by the animals, which were recently born to a neighborhood stray.
The FIR was filed based on the statement of Anshumali Vashishth, general secretary of the Animal Care Society. The women have been booked under Section 325 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, which addresses mischief by killing or maiming animals.
Station House Officer Jitendra Kumar confirmed that further legal action will proceed as the investigation unfolds. The Meerut Vyapar Mandal has also intervened, with representatives meeting Circle Officer (CO) Daurala Shuchita Singh, urging authorities to take strict action against those responsible.
