Heavy Rain Warning: Delhi Under Orange Alert, Residents Advised to Stay Cautious: Watch Now

As monsoon season continues to cause chaos worldwide. Meteorological department has issued a heavy rainfall alert from Delhi-NCR region including Noida, Gurgaon, and Ghaziabad. Meanwhile, a red alert is active for Himachal Pradesh as well as Uttarakhand for extremely heavy rainfall and flash floods. Both hill states have been warned of more landslides and floods as the weather department predicts more rainfall in September.

Cities Under Alert

Furthermore, states like Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir remain on orange and continue till September 4. The North Indian state government has instructed schools to remain closed and take online classes and offered adults and company employees the option to work from home.

Waterlogging: A Serious Issue

Meanwhile in Gurugram, waterlogging is the biggest issue in monsoon season, due to which traffic snarls hit residents due to the heavy rains in Delhi-NCR, resulting in a seven-kilometer-long traffic jam across the city.

As per an advisory from the District Disaster Management Authority, Gurugram, IMD has issued an orange alert for the city for Tuesday. 

Irregular rains have lashed out at Delhi NCR since Monday, with the IMD warning of more moderate to heavy downpours in the coming days.

In Gurgaon, an orange alert has been issued for heavy rainfall after the city recorded over 100 mm of rain in just four hours from 3 PM to 7 PM on Tuesday. 

In Jammu, all government and private schools will remain closed today in view of the weather alerts and heavy thunderstorms causing landslides in hilly areas.

In Delhi, a flood alert has been issued as the Yamuna River crosses the danger line, a warning alert for the public amid heavy rainfall. Evacuations near the river are underway.

Worsening Condition of Punjab and Nearby Towns

In Punjab, Governor Gulab Chand Kataria will visit the flood-hit districts of the state from September 2 to 4. As per an official statement, the governor will visit the flood-hit areas of Ferozepur and Tarn Taran on September 2, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Pathankot on September 3, and Hoshiarpur and Sri Anandpur Sahib on September 4.

As the Yamuna River crossed the danger mark on Tuesday, water began entering houses in parts of the Trans-Yamuna area of the capital, which led residents to scramble to move their belongings to higher ground.

Residents of several parts of Delhi woke up to waterlogged streets and flooded homes after overnight rain. Areas like Mayur Vihar near New Ashok Nagar and nearby localities were among those affected. 

Officials said the Yamuna was flowing at 205.80 meters at the Old Yamuna Bridge (OYB) at 8 am, above the danger mark of 205.33 meters.
