In a disturbing incident that has sparked public outrage, a police officer in Guwahati, Assam, was suspended after a video surfaced showing him physically assaulting a delivery agent. The altercation, which occurred on Friday evening near the Jail Road traffic point in Fancy Bazar, has prompted swift action from authorities.

The Incident and the Assault

According to reports, the delivery agent was allegedly riding his scooter in a restricted ‘no entry’ zone when he broke a traffic signal. Upon being flagged down by the Police Security Officer (PSO), the agent reportedly attempted to flee the scene. What followed was a violent encounter that was captured by bystanders.

In the footage, Inspector Bhargav Borbora, Officer-in-Charge of Panbazar Police Station, is seen dragging the delivery agent to the roadside. Borbora is caught on camera grabbing the agent by the neck and shouting at him. He is also heard making threatening remarks, including “Where do you think you are going?” and “I will kill you.” Despite several attempts by onlookers to intervene, the officer continued the assault, further escalating the situation.

Eyewitnesses who recorded the disturbing scene also reported that Borbora noticed them filming and began threatening them as well. He instructed the onlookers to stop recording and accused them of interfering in the matter. The video quickly went viral, triggering widespread condemnation.

In response to the incident, Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP), GP Singh, expressed his disapproval of the officer’s behavior. Taking immediate action, DGP Singh announced that Inspector Borbora had been suspended with immediate effect. He also confirmed that a Departmental Enquiry would be conducted, and the Commissioner of Police (CP) Guwahati had been advised to assign a replacement officer to the Panbazar Police Station.
