Guru Purnima holds profound significance in Hinduism acknowledging the vital role of spiritual guidance and mentorship. This sacred day is dedicated to expressing gratitude and respect towards gurus who have profoundly shaped their disciples’ lives.

It celebrates these influential figures who guide us along the right path and help us make wise decisions. A guru, especially in a spiritual context, enriches our lives with their teachings and wisdom. As we get ready to celebrate Guru Purnima this year, here are some essential details to consider.

Date and Time : This year, Guru Purnima will be observed on July 21, which falls on a Sunday. According to Drik Panchang, the Purnima Tithi (full moon phase) will begin at 5:59 PM on July 20 and will end at 3:46 PM on July 21. Guru Purnima is also known as Vyasa Purnima, commemorating the birth anniversary of Veda Vyasa, a revered author and character in the Hindu epic, Mahabharata.

The Maha Guru’s teachings are honored through the recitation of the Maha Gita. Devotees offer flowers, gifts, prasad (consecrated food), and charanamrita (holy water). Ashrams dedicated to Veda Vyasa celebrate with sandalwood pujas, paying homage to his contributions and teachings.
