“They have great genes!” one user commented under a trending video.
This comes as Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney faces backlash over her American Eagle jeans ad. In the ad, Sweeney says, ‘my jeans are blue’, followed by the line ‘Sydney Sweeney has great jeans’. Many critics argue it plays on the words jeans and genes, promoting exclusionary ‘Aryan beauty standards’.

Now, Rushtok videos appear to be leaning into that controversy, and in some cases, flipping it.

TikTok Trend Goes Campus-Wide
One X user broke it down: “Across universities from Oklahoma to Alabama, from LSU to Florida State, stunning clips of all-American girls…are going wildly viral. What started as a TikTok trend is now becoming a campus-wide cultural tradition.”
They described universities ‘prepping lighting, rehearsing entrances, and curating fashion’ like a Netflix pilot, calling it ‘a return to traditional American beauty’ for some, and ‘a reminder of charm, unity, and optimism’ for others.

Real Trend or Online Spin?
The videos are real sorority rush clips, however, there’s no evidence that ‘Good Genes’ is an official theme. For example, Oklahoma’s Chi Omega event ‘Head over boots for Chi O’, the source of one viral video made no mention of ‘Good Genes’. The phenomenon is still part of Rushtok.
Rushtok is TikTok-driven trend where potential new members (PNMs) document each stage of sorority recruitment. Originally a niche online activity, Rushtok has grown into a social media subculture and even inspired a Max documentary.
