Halloween is a festival celebrated every year on October 31, mainly in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Ireland, though it’s grown increasingly popular worldwide, including in India’s big cities.
It originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, a harvest celebration marking the end of summer and the beginning of winter.
People believed that the boundary separating the living from the dead was blurred on this night and that spirits could return to Earth. They lit bonfires to ward off ghosts and wore costumes, which evolved into today's Halloween customs.
