In modern day we used to trust doctors or nurses for our daily treatment. We used to call them first and then look for the next things. But What? When a nurse used to take out his frustration on his patient. A case in Germany left everyone shocked when a nurse was found guilty of a horrific series of crimes, murdering 10 patients and attempting to kill 27 others in order to reduce his work load frustration.
The crimes took place between December 2023 and May 2024 at a hospital in Wuerselen, western Germany. The court heard that the nurse deliberately injected his mostly elderly patients with high doses of morphine and sedatives. His shocking motive was to simply ease his workload during long night shifts.
A Picture of Nurse Behavior
During the trial in Aachen, prosecutors painted a grim picture of the nurse’s behavior. They stated he acted with “irritation” and showed a total lack of empathy toward patients who required intensive care.
The prosecutors described his actions as behaving like a “master of life and death.”
How a Nurse Cares for his/her Patient
The court heard that the nurse began working at the Wuerselen facility in 2020, having completed his nursing training back in 2007.
During overnight shifts, he allegedly gave patients excessive doses of two powerful drugs: morphine (a painkiller) and midazolam (a sedative). He did this to hasten their deaths and reduce the number of patients he had to care for.

Arrest and Ongoing Investigation
The man was finally arrested in 2024 after an internal hospital investigation raised alarms. This was followed by toxicology reports that confirmed the presence of excessive amounts of the drugs in the deceased patients.
The legal troubles for the convicted nurse may not be over. Prosecutors believe that his crimes may extend beyond the 10 confirmed victims and the 27 attempted killings.
Ongoing exhumations (digging up bodies) are currently being carried out to identify any potential additional victims. If more cases are confirmed, the nurse could face further trials in the future.
Nurse Convicted for Multiple Patient Murders
When handing down the sentence, the court made a powerful statement. It ruled that the nurse’s crimes carried a “particular severity of guilt.” This ruling is crucial because it means the convict will be barred from early release after the usual 15 years served.
