Social media is filled with tributes today, October 2, marking the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, affectionately known as the “Father of the Nation.” Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday in India, is celebrated to honour Mahatma Gandhi’s life and contributions to the Indian independence movement, where he championed nonviolent resistance. His leadership inspired millions of Indians to join the fight for freedom.

Mahatma Gandhi dedicated his life to serving others and played a pivotal role in India’s journey to independence. He spearheaded various movements such as the Non-Cooperation Movement, the Dandi March, and the Quit India Movement, all of which contributed to ending British rule. His principles of nonviolence and truth continue to inspire individuals worldwide.

As the nation remembers his legacy, here are some of his quotes that highlight his beliefs in truth, nonviolence, and justice:

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”

“In a gentle way, you can shake the world.”

“An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind.”

“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.”
