In an inspiring display of compassion and ingenuity, an Indian-origin man in New Jersey played a key role in rescuing a 20-month-old dog stranded on the icy surface of Lake Parsippany. The Sheepadoodle, named Brooklyn, had been stuck on the frozen lake for nearly a day after escaping from her dog sitter on Christmas Eve.
Drone to the Rescue
Local resident Kishan Patel, who lives near the lake, stepped in to assist after witnessing the dog’s plight and the ongoing efforts of police and residents. As a drone owner and a dog lover himself, Patel was moved by the situation. “I can imagine what the owner must be going through,” he shared.
Using his drone, Patel attempted to lure Brooklyn to safety with pieces of chicken, bringing the frightened dog within 20-30 feet of the shore. However, Brooklyn hesitated and backed away upon seeing the people waiting for her.

Overcoming the Challenge
As night fell, Patel’s drone became crucial in locating Brooklyn on the icy expanse. Police then tested the ice’s thickness with weights, allowing an officer to approach the dog carefully. The officer’s presence startled Brooklyn enough to make her run back to shore. Eventually, she sought shelter on a front porch, where she was found safe.
A Community Effort
The rescue effort highlighted the perseverance of local authorities and Patel’s innovative approach. Reflecting on the experience, Patel said, “I feel relieved and happy that the dog is safe and back home.” He added that he was glad his drone could be used for a meaningful purpose.
Brooklyn’s safe return brought immense relief to her owner and the community, a testament to the power of teamwork and compassion in times of need.
