The dark side of corporate exploitation has come to light in Kochi after disturbing video footage from Hindustan Powerlinks, a marketing company, exposed the shocking and inhumane treatment of its employees. The footage, allegedly recorded at the firm’s Kaloor Janatha Road branch, shows staff being subjected to cruel punishments for failing to meet sales targets.
“Motivation” or Misery?
Employees, most of whom earn between ₹6,000 and ₹8,000 per month, are forced to go door-to-door selling products. When they fall short of their goals, the punishments are brutal. In the video, employees can be seen crawling on the floor with belts around their necks, forced to lick coins and drink water like animals. Some were made to consume half-eaten fruits, allegedly to “inspire” them to perform better the next day.

The psychological toll is evident. Reports claim that in some cases, male staff members were coerced into undressing and touching each other in degrading ways. Female employees weren’t spared either, facing their own share of harassment in what appears to be a deeply toxic and abusive work environment.
Widespread Fear Silences Victims
Many employees have remained silent, fearing threats or job loss. “The pressure is constant,” one former employee said anonymously. “They lure you with promises of promotion and then break you mentally and physically.”
Repeat Offender?
This isn’t the first time Hindustan Powerlinks has faced such allegations. While previous complaints were downplayed, the recent footage has sparked renewed outrage.
Human Rights Groups Demand Action
Outraged by the footage, several human rights organizations have called for immediate action. They’ve urged the local administration to launch a thorough investigation and take strict measures against the company.
A Wake-Up Call for Corporate India
This incident raises serious questions about labor rights and the unchecked power of some private firms. As society continues to prioritize profit and performance, stories like these underline the urgent need for stronger labor laws and safer workplaces.
