The scorching Delhi summer is affecting not only residents’ health but also their finances. A Delhi man recently expressed his frustration on Reddit by sharing a screenshot of his shocking ₹30,000 electricity bill for June. The exorbitant cost left both him and many others on the platform astonished.

The Reddit user wrote, “Pain. How is this even possible.” He also posted a screenshot from BSES Rajdhani indicating that the amount of ₹30,280 must be paid by July 9.

Delhi experienced one of its hottest summers on record, with residents enduring extreme temperatures and even reports of boiling tap water. To combat the heat, many heavily relied on air conditioning. However, some, like a Delhiite who recently shared his experience on Reddit, found their efforts undermined by the intensity of the heatwave.

Despite replacing his 16-year-old AC units with new ones, he still faced substantial energy bills, likely because his household was running at least two ACs simultaneously.

“Bought new ACs thinking it’ll save money. It did not, in fact, save money. Four ACs, out of which at least two running at a time,” he wrote on Reddit.

In the comments section, he clarified that his new AC units have five-star ratings, which should theoretically help him save on electricity.

This isn’t the first instance of soaring electricity bills in the national capital region. Earlier this month, Jasveer Singh, co-founder of the Join Hood App, caused a stir on social media after reporting a ₹45,000 bill for a single month.

Meanwhile, hundreds of residents have reported frequent power outages as authorities struggle to meet the high demand.
