A 30-year-old man has been arrested in Shakarpur, Delhi, after he allegedly installed hidden spy cameras in light bulbs to record a female tenant in her bathroom and bedroom, according to police reports. The suspect, identified as Karan, is the son of the landlord and resides on a different floor in the same building.

How Did The Woman Find Out About The Cameras?

The victim, who is preparing for civil services entrance exams, lives alone in a rented flat in Shakarpur. She had left her keys with Karan during her visit to her hometown in Uttar Pradesh. Senior police officer Apoorva Gupta explained that the woman noticed unusual activity on her WhatsApp account, which led her to check connected devices.

Upon discovering an unknown laptop linked to her account, she quickly logged out. This incident raised her suspicions, prompting her to search for any surveillance devices in her apartment. “She found one camera installed in the bulb holder of her bathroom and alerted the police by making a PCR call,” the officer stated. Upon further inspection by a sub-inspector, another camera was located in the bulb holder of her bedroom.

Police Investigation

When questioned by the police, the woman revealed that she often entrusted her keys to Karan during her travels. During his interrogation, Karan admitted that the woman had left her keys with him three months prior when she traveled. “Seizing this opportunity, Karan purchased three spy cameras, commonly available in electronics markets, and installed one in her bathroom and one in her bedroom,” the police officer explained.

The cameras were not capable of online operation, and the footage was stored on memory cards. Karan had repeatedly asked the woman for her keys under the pretext of needing to perform electrical repairs, which allowed him to transfer the recorded videos to his laptop.

During the investigation, police seized one spy camera and two laptops used to store the recorded footage from Karan. The accused, who has a disability, now faces charges of voyeurism under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, which carries a minimum jail term of one year. Authorities have stated that further investigations are ongoing.
