Couples Divorce After 50 Years To Marry Again: ‘My First Love’

True love, it seems, does indeed never fade. Almost five decades after their divorce, the Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, couple Fay Gable, 89, and Robert Wenrich, 94, is set to remarry on December 8 in Denver, Pennsylvania. The couple will be surrounded by their extensive family of four children, 14 great-grandchildren, and twin great-great-grandchildren when they exchange their wedding vows.

Theyre like two teenagers in love. They do everything together,” their youngest daughter, Carol Smith, told Lancaster Online during an interview.

From First Love to a Second Chance

Fay and Robert met in the early 1950s when Robert – being a close friend of Fays elder brother boldly declared, he would marry her one day. The two got married in the year 1951 and had children four in number. This, however, did not materialise as they divorced later on in 1975 on personal grounds, the both of them marrying partners from other relationships.

They would stay in touch and reconnect whenever the other attended family gatherings. The couple spent many years each with their spouse until they were both widowed.

Later Years of Regained Love

Time passes, and Fay and Robert began to reminisce over the past. Their attachment continued through family gatherings and helped pave the way for the surprise reunion.

She was the first love of my life. I never thought that I would get her back. And now that I already did, I am not wasting any time,” Robert shared, as if showing serious emotional feelings towards this second chance at love.

Moving On Together

The couple’s decision to remarry has brought joy to their family, who have supported them throughout their journey. With excitement about their new chapter, Robert humorously added, “I think we’ll be good now for the next couple of years.”

Their heartwarming story reminds us all that love knows no age, and it’s never too late for a fresh start.
