A recently surfaced video showcasing the Regent International, the largest residential building globally, located in Qianjiang Century City, China, has taken social media by storm. This 675-foot-tall architectural marvel was originally designed as a luxury hotel but has since been transformed into an expansive apartment complex.

A Self-Contained Community

Regent International boasts 39 floors and accommodates over 20,000 residents in thousands of high-end residential apartments. This extraordinary structure is often described as a “self-contained community,” complete with a variety of amenities and businesses. Inside the building, residents can find a giant food court, swimming pools, grocery stores, barber shops, nail salons, and cafes, allowing them to meet most of their daily needs without ever stepping outside.

Interestingly, even with its impressive size, the building has a maximum capacity of 30,000 people, meaning it can still welcome an additional 10,000 residents.

Viral Sensation

The video of this colossal building has amassed nearly 60,000 views on X (formerly Twitter), with many viewers expressing awe at its size and capabilities. “It is crazy. How do they manage water supply and sewage?” questioned one user.

Another user remarked, “That’s a whole city in one building,” highlighting the unique aspect of such a massive structure. “It’s amazing to see how modern architecture can bring so many people together under one roof, creating a unique sense of community,” noted a third.

Concerns and Criticisms

However, not all feedback has been positive. Many users voiced concerns about potential safety issues and logistical challenges that could arise from living in such a large complex. “If it falls due to an earthquake, more than 20,000 people will die. It is too risky,” commented one worried viewer.

Another user raised a practical issue, stating, “The pressure on shared facilities like elevators and open spaces within the compound would be immense. Also, in case of a fire or earthquake, first responders would face significant challenges.”

Some users even joked about the intricacies of community management in such a massive building, with one saying, “Elections for the Residents’ Welfare Association here must be interesting… lol.”

As the world continues to marvel at innovative architectural designs, the Regent International stands out as a remarkable feat of engineering. While it promises a self-sufficient lifestyle for its residents, it also raises important questions about safety, logistics, and community living in such a grand structure.
