A Canadian woman, Jessica Waite, consumed her late husband’s ashes after discovering his infidelity, which included multiple affairs and hiring escorts at high prices.
In her memoir, A Widow’s Guide to Dead Bastards, Waite reveals how she uncovered her husband Sean Waite’s secrets after his death during a work trip in Texas, USA, in 2015. The shocking truth came to light when she used his iPad to look up the number for the Houston hospital where his body was. Instead of the hospital’s information, the search auto-filled with “Houston escorts.”
Waite then explored his browsing history and was horrified to find he had used the device to search for specific escorts and check their prices in various locations.
In the months following his death, she uncovered more evidence of his unfaithfulness, discovering that he regularly met with escorts and had affairs with multiple women. She also found that he had claimed to be working late when he was actually downloading hundreds of pornographic videos onto his computer, which he meticulously organized into folders. Additionally, he had rented an apartment in Colorado, USA, where he would meet escorts or women he dated.
In her memoir, Waite describes feeling increasingly “detached from reality” as she struggled to cope with her grief and her husband’s betrayal. Overcome with rage, she cut open the bag containing his ashes with a knife and mixed them with her dog’s feces.
“I’ve desecrated the remains of my partner in life,” she confessed. However, she also shared a moment of despair when she consumed some of the ashes herself. She wrote, “The remains feel dry against my fingertips, coarser than baking powder, grainier than salt. They mix with the teary water, a mineral mud on the back of my tongue. I swallow.”
