Picture driving on a picturesque road lined by water, to have the tide rise suddenly. That was the experience of one cab driver and his passengers in Holy Island,

Northumberland. A social media video captures the harrowing experience as the taxi is trapped by the rising waters as it exits the island.

The drone camera captures the driver trying to make it over the causeway connecting Lindisfarne with the UK mainland when the water starts to flood the road. The driver does not heed the danger and keeps going, moving the cab through water that had already inundated over half the road.

Cab Reaches Safe Ground

One misstep would have been a catastrophe. Nevertheless, the driver persisted and ended up at a safer location on the causeway above the tide. Surrounded by water, the passengers at last decided to halt. From the cab marked with Uber, a woman emerged, holding onto the railing to empty water from her boots. A Buddhist monk also got out and even waved happily at the drone that was taking the picture.

RNLI Steps In

As reported by Mirror UK, the video was shot in 2016 by Mark Bradshaw, who was taking drone shots of Lindisfarne Castle. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) later came to the rescue by boat after a while.

Social Media Reacts

The video resurfaced online and garnered mixed reactions. One person commented, “The driver ought to be arrested for driving in such weather. I would sue him if I were the one receiving the ride.”

Others praised the courage, saying, “He won’t turn back’, bro, he CAN’T turn back. If he slows or stops, the engine will flood… they’d float away.” Another joked, “BUT DID YOU DIE?!?”
