BharatMatrimony Faces Backlash After Married Woman’s Photo Misused in Fake Profile on Elite Service

BharatMatrimony, one of India’s top matrimonial sites, faces criticism after a married woman discovered her photo being used on a fake profile within its elite subscription service. Swati Mukund, who clarified she did not meet her husband through any matrimonial platform, shared her experience in an Instagram video, calling it the “BharatMatrimony Scam” and advising potential users to be cautious, particularly on premium services.

In the video, Mukund displays a screenshot showing her photo in a profile named “Nithya Raja Sekar,” allegedly a 35-year-old Brahmin B.Tech graduate and fitness professional from Chennai. “For the record, this is my husband,” she remarks, gesturing to her spouse on-screen. She adds, “No, I didn’t find him on any of these apps,” voicing her shock and questioning BharatMatrimony’s vetting process: “How on earth are you doing it?” Mukund criticized the platform’s elite service, which comes with a high fee for what is supposed to be a meticulously screened experience, cautioning viewers that “What you see is not what you always get.”

The post has ignited strong responses online, with others sharing similar experiences. One user mentioned finding a profile labeled “divorcee seeking a suitable groom” using her name, despite never having been married. Another shared that a fake profile was created under her name after her father’s passing, leading to unwanted calls and emails.

Frustrations with BharatMatrimony’s premium services also emerged in the comments. One user reported paying 1.5 lakh rupees for elite membership, only to encounter repetitive matches. Several other users echoed disappointment, with one sharing, “It’s all a scam. Over the years, my parents and I went through hell, and it was all fake.”
