Bengaluru Pubs Are Perfect for Kids, American Mom Reveals Why

Dana Marie, an American expat living in India, has revealed an unexpected aspect of life in Bengaluru that stands in contrast to her experiences abroad—she can comfortably take her toddler to pubs after preschool. In an Instagram video, Dana shared the wholesome reasoning behind this choice and why Bengaluru’s pubs stand out in comparison to those in other countries.

Non-Alcoholic Options and Child-Friendly Atmosphere

According to Dana, what makes Bengaluru’s pubs unique is their extensive selection of non-alcoholic beverages, making them inviting not only for adults but also for children. As a non-drinker herself, she appreciates the wide range of mocktails and fresh juices on offer, providing something enjoyable for both her and her kids. She pointed out that this differs significantly from her home country, where pubs are rarely seen as family-friendly spaces.

“Bengaluru pubs are in a league of their own,” Dana explained, adding that these venues often create environments where children can have fun. One pub she visited even featured fish ponds, which her children enjoyed interacting with.

Open-Air, Smoke-Free Venues for a Safe Experience

Another appealing aspect of Bengaluru’s pub scene, as described by Dana, is the open-air layout of many establishments. These spaces are often smoke-free, making them a safer option for families with young children. Dana emphasized how the city’s pubs prioritize comfort and safety, allowing parents to bring their kids without concern.

Weekend Activities and Celebrations for Kids

Dana also noted that some Bengaluru pubs go the extra mile to create a family-friendly environment by hosting activities for children, especially on weekends. “We’ve even attended a child’s birthday party in a pub,” she said, reflecting on how inclusive these spaces are for families. However, she clarified that while she enjoys taking her kids to pubs during the day, she avoids bringing them in the evening.

A Different Vibe Compared to Western Pubs

Other expats and locals chimed in on Dana’s video, echoing her sentiments about Bengaluru’s pub culture. One Instagram user remarked that breweries and pubs in the city are more like restaurants than their Western counterparts, where children are less commonly seen. Another shared, “I’ve taken my two-year-old here. He absolutely loved it too. The vibe in Bangalore is irreplaceable.”

Dana Marie, who frequently shares insights about the differences between life in India and the U.S., continues to highlight how her family has adapted to and embraced the unique cultural aspects of Bengaluru, with its open and welcoming approach to families in settings typically considered adult-only in other parts of the world.
