Zomato has released its year-end report for 2024, offering intriguing insights into India’s food preferences. As expected, biryani maintained its position as the country’s most ordered dish, with Zomato delivering over 9 crore biryanis this year—equating to more than three biryanis ordered every second.

A standout discovery was a Bengaluru-based foodie who spent a staggering Rs 5,13,733 at a single restaurant visit. While the specifics of the meal remain confidential, the amount is certainly eye-popping.

Dining out also emerged as a major trend in 2024. From January 1 to December 6, Indians booked 1,25,55,417 tables via Zomato. Father’s Day saw a significant rush, with 84,866 table reservations on that day alone.

Delhi was recognized as the most budget-conscious city when it came to dining out, with residents saving an impressive ₹195 crore on restaurant bills through Zomato discounts and offers. Bengaluru and Mumbai followed, but Delhi’s thrifty habits stood out.

Biryani reigned supreme for the ninth consecutive year on Zomato, with a remarkable 9,13,99,110 orders placed in 2024. Pizza came in second with over 5.84 crore orders, maintaining its status as a top favorite, even though it couldn’t dethrone biryani.

In beverages, tea edged out coffee as the most ordered drink on Zomato, with 77,76,725 cups of tea ordered compared to 74,32,856 cups of coffee, reinforcing tea’s dominant presence in the nation.

Zomato’s report highlights India’s evolving food habits, emphasizing a love for both dining out and ordering in. As 2024 comes to a close, it’s clear that India’s affection for biryani, tea, and dining experiences remains stronger than ever—proving that food is truly a celebration for every Indian.
