In 2024 alone, Zomato delivered a staggering 9.13 crore plates of biryani, equating to more than three plates every second. Pizza trailed behind as the second most-ordered item, with over 5.8 crore deliveries.
In the beverage category, tea emerged as the frontrunner, with 77.76 lakh orders, surpassing coffee’s 74.32 lakh orders. Despite coffee’s rising popularity, tea remained India’s top choice for yet another year.
Bengaluru Foodie’s ₹5 Lakh Splurge
One of the standout revelations of the report was a Bengaluru diner’s extravagant spending. This food enthusiast shelled out ₹5,13,733 on a single restaurant bill, making headlines as the highest dining out expense recorded this year.
Dining Out Trends: Delhi Tops Savings
From January 1 to December 6, 2024, Indians reserved over 1.25 crore tables through Zomato, with Father’s Day standing out as one of the busiest occasions, witnessing 84,866 reservations.
Delhi led in dining savings, with Delhiites collectively saving ₹195 crore on their dining bills through Zomato offers. Bengaluru and Mumbai closely followed but couldn’t surpass Delhi’s thrifty dining culture.
