Bengaluru AI Start-Up CEO Arrested for Alleged Murder of Four-Year-Old Son in Goa

Suchana Seth, the 39-year-old CEO and co-founder of Bengaluru’s renowned artificial intelligence start-up, Mindful AI Lab, has been apprehended in Karnataka’s Chitradurga after allegedly murdering her four-year-old son in Goa. The harrowing incident unfolded at an apartment in north Goa’s Candolim, where Ms. Seth was residing.

Ms. Seth, accompanied by her son, checked into Sol Banyan Grande in Candolim on Saturday. However, on Monday, she left the hotel alone, opting for a taxi to Bengaluru despite recommendations to take a flight. It was during this time that hotel staff discovered the absence of her son. Upon inspecting the apartment, bloodstains were found, prompting immediate notification to the Goa police.

Goa police, in their investigation, found discrepancies in Ms. Seth’s information provided to the taxi driver about her son’s whereabouts. When questioned, she falsely claimed her son was with a friend, offering a misleading address. Suspecting foul play, the police, conversing in Konkani, directed the driver to the nearest police station in Chitradurga, approximately 200 km from Bengaluru.

Upon arrival, Ms. Seth was arrested by Chitradurga police, and her son’s lifeless body was discovered inside a bag she was carrying. The distressed husband, Venkat Raman, an AI developer, was informed and rushed to Chitradurga after learning of the tragic news. Ms. Seth was subsequently taken back to Goa for further interrogation.

The 39-year-old start-up founder, embroiled in a tragic case of allegedly murdering her four-year-old son in Goa and transporting his lifeless body to Karnataka, was revealed to be separated from her husband, according to police statements. Suchana Seth, the CEO of Mindful AI Lab, originally from West Bengal, was reportedly distressed due to her strained relationship with her husband, who hails from Kerala. Their divorce proceedings are already underway, and the husband, currently in Indonesia, has been summoned back to India.

Suchana Seth, previously recognized among the “100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics for 2021” on Mindful AI Lab’s LinkedIn page, now faces serious charges in connection with the devastating incident. Her LinkedIn profile highlights her as a fellow at Harvard University’s Berkman Klein Centre, with over 12 years of experience as a data scientist, mentoring data science teams, and scaling machine learning solutions in start-ups and industry research labs. The motive behind this heartbreaking crime is yet to be determined.
