In a disturbing incident that has left pet lovers outraged, two unidentified bike-borne miscreants snatched a dog from its owner during a routine walk in Bengaluru’s Jayanagar area. The entire act was caught on CCTV, exposing the brazen cruelty of the crime.
The incident took place on February 12 when Madhura, a local resident, was walking her dog, Richie, along a relatively quiet street. Suddenly, two men on a bike, wearing helmets and masks, approached and forcibly grabbed the dog’s leash. In a terrifying few seconds, they sped off with the dog in tow, dragging it a short distance as Madhura ran behind them in a desperate attempt to stop them—unfortunately, she couldn’t.

CCTV footage shows the moment the bikers targeted the woman and fled with the pet, while the street remained largely empty. Madhura immediately reported the matter to the Tilaknagar police station and filed an FIR. The stolen dog is reportedly worth ₹10,000, and an investigation is now underway.
Reacting to the incident, animal welfare group Street Dogs of Bombay shared the video online with a strong statement:
“This is not just a theft—it’s a glimpse into a darker, crueler world of illegal breeding and black-market pet trade. Imagine the fear… the helplessness… when a simple, joyful walk with your furry companion turns into a moment of horror.”
The case has sparked concern over the safety of pets in public spaces and raised questions about rising cases of dog thefts linked to underground pet trading rings. Police are currently analysing CCTV footage to trace the suspects.
