In the world of Harry Potter, fans are familiar with Nagini, Lord Voldemort’s serpent companion depicted as green in the films. Now, a real-world counterpart akin to this magical depiction has emerged at Kaziranga, where Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, shared images of a striking green snake.
“Guess what, kids? Kaziranga just found a real-life Harry Potter snake! Meet the super cool Salazar Pit Viper: it’s green like magic and has a funky red-orange stripe on its head. Isn’t nature awesome?” wrote Sarma alongside the photographs of the green-colored snake.

Since its posting on July 8, the post has garnered significant attention with numerous likes and comments praising the beauty of the snake. Assam residents and wildlife enthusiasts alike have expressed awe at the unique sighting.
Earlier this year in February, scientists made headlines by discovering a new species of green anaconda in the Amazon rainforest. Dr. Freek Vonk, part of the team, captured footage of a colossal 26-foot-long anaconda, believed to be the largest snake globally.
Dr. Vonk shared his excitement on Instagram, describing the encounter as a career highlight, especially due to the anaconda’s immense size and its significance within the Amazon ecosystem. The newly identified species, named Eunectes akayima, translates to “northern green anaconda” in Latin, emphasizing its distinctiveness in the natural world.
