Passengers aboard Qantas flight QF59 from Sydney to Haneda experienced a shocking incident when the explicit movie Daddio (2023) unexpectedly played on all screens due to a malfunction in the in-flight entertainment system. The R-rated film’s graphic content, which included sexual scenes and nudity, caused discomfort among travellers, particularly families with children.

Many passengers were unable to stop the inappropriate content, which featured exposed genitals and graphic nudity. One individual recounted the experience on Reddit, stating, “It was impossible to pause, dim, or turn it off. It was super uncomfortable for everyone, especially with families and kids on board.”

Qantas confirmed the occurrence, explaining that a technical glitch hindered individual movie selections. In response, crew members asked passengers for their preferred films, which inadvertently led to Daddio being screened for the entire cabin. When it became evident that the film was inappropriate, the crew attempted to rectify the situation by fixing the screens for those wishing to avoid it. However, this effort proved unfeasible, and they ultimately replaced the movie with a more family-friendly option.

A Qantas spokesperson issued an apology for the incident, stating, “The movie was clearly not suitable to play for the whole flight, and we sincerely apologise to customers for this experience.” The airline is now reviewing its film selection process, as it is standard practice to show family-friendly movies in such scenarios.

The incident has left many passengers unsettled, prompting Qantas to take measures to prevent a recurrence of this technical glitch.
