A 75-year-old man, Sangruram, from Kuchhmuchh village in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, died suddenly the morning after his wedding. He had married a woman less than half his age, hoping to find companionship after years of living alone.

Sangruram lost his first wife a year ago. With no children, he lived by himself and earned his living through farming. Relatives had advised him not to remarry, but he went ahead with his decision.

The Marriage Ceremony

On Monday, September 29, Sangruram married 35-year-old Manbhavati, a resident of the Jalalpur area. The couple first registered their marriage in court and later performed traditional rituals at a local temple.

After the ceremony, Manbhavati told villagers that her husband had assured her that she should take care of the household while he would “take care of the children.” She said they spent much of the wedding night in conversation.

Sudden Death the Next Morning

By the following morning, Sangruram’s health worsened suddenly. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The unexpected death has left the entire village shocked.

While some residents believe the incident was natural due to his old age, others have raised suspicion about the circumstances.

Family Demands Inquiry

Sangruram’s relatives, including nephews who live in Delhi, have stopped the funeral rites. They want to be present before the cremation is carried out. Questions have also been raised about whether a post-mortem or police inquiry will take place.

The case has created a buzz in the village, with divided opinions on whether the death was due to natural causes or if further investigation is needed.

Community Reaction

Villagers have described the incident as unusual and unsettling. For some, it highlights the risks of late-age marriages, while others feel it may simply have been fate.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether an official investigation will be ordered. Meanwhile, the family waits before performing the last rites.
