Several people have died amid the heavy rains and landslides in West Bengal’s Darjeeling on Sunday. Furthermore, due to the excessive rainfall, an iron bridge also collapsed. As per the latest update, at least seven people have died due to the landslides.
The Dhudia bridge, an iron bridge crossing the Balason River at Dudhia, linking Siliguri and Mirik, was damaged and collapsed because of the rains in the area.

Many Killed During Heavy Rain in Bengal
According to PTI, authorities have reported that no less than seven people have lost their lives in Darjeeling as a result of the landslides caused by excessive rains.
BJP leader and Darjeeling MP Raju Bista said that there have been a few deaths and damage to properties caused by the relentless rain.
“I am very distressed to hear about the huge damages inflicted due to extremely heavy rainfall in large areas of the Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts. There are reports of fatalities, destruction of properties, and damage to infrastructure. I am assessing the situation and am in contact with the concerned authorities,” Bista posted on X.

Red Alert for Parts of Bengal
The India Meteorological Department on Saturday had declared a red alert for sub-Himalayan districts, including Kalimpong, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar.
According to Sunday’s warnings, Alipurduar has a red alert in place, while an orange alert for heavy rain is in place for Cooch Behar, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Jalpaiguri.
The devastating rain in the past few days has caused massive damages across our region. In the Terai belt, Siliguri, Matigara, Naxalbari and Phansidewa have suffered waterlogging.

But according to the nowcast from RMC Kolkata, there is a red alert for very heavy rain in force for Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar up to 12 noon.
