50,000 Weddings On November 12 In Delhi-NCR: What’s Behind The Marriage Frenzy?

Delhi-NCR is bracing for a wedding extravaganza as nearly 50,000 ceremonies are set to take place on November 12. This date marks the beginning of the winter wedding season and is expected to bring festive chaos to the streets, complete with grand baraats and bustling traffic.

Why November 12?

Astrologers and priests highlight that November 12 coincides with Dev Uthani Ekadashi, also known as Prabodhini Ekadashi. This day is deemed exceptionally auspicious as it signifies the awakening of Lord Vishnu after his four-month slumber during Chaturmas.

What makes this date even more special is its abhuj status, meaning couples can marry without the need for kundali consultations or additional rituals. Even those with traditionally challenging planetary placements, such as mangliks, can wed on this day.

Wedding Industry in Overdrive

Piyush Sharma, owner of Hari Om Band in Rohini, shared that vendors across Delhi have reported an overwhelming number of bookings. “We’ve been receiving back-to-back requests,” said Sharma.

Virender Chawla of Chawla Band confirmed that his team is fully booked, while Manoj Sindhi of Sindhi Hira Nand Ghori Wala in Karol Bagh revealed that they had to arrange shifts for their band artists due to the unprecedented demand.

Dev Uthani Ekadashi is not just a day for weddings but holds deep spiritual significance. It marks the end of Chaturmas, a period during which no auspicious events are conducted. Devotees believe that fasting and worship on this day bring the blessings of Lord Vishnu, ensuring prosperity and abundance in their lives.
