₹400 Rajma Rice, Flight Delays: Reddit User Calls Delhi Airport Experience the ‘Worst’

A Reddit user recently shared his frustration over a poor flight experience at Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1, calling it the “worst flight experience” of his life. The ordeal began when he arrived early to access the lounge, only to find it was under renovation. Forced to explore other options, he was shocked by the steep prices at the food stalls.

“I got to the T3 terminal early for my 10:30 a.m. flight, hoping to relax in the lounge, but it was closed for renovation. I thought, okay, I’ll just eat at one of the food stores,” the user wrote on Reddit. However, he was met with disappointment again when he discovered that there were only three food outlets, all of which had “crazy overpriced” items.

He listed some examples: “Tea was ₹200, coffee ₹300, rajma rice ₹400, and even a burger was ₹300, which was the cheapest option. To top it off, there wasn’t enough seating space near the food stalls.”

His travel woes didn’t end there. His SpiceJet flight was delayed by an hour, but even after boarding at 11:30 a.m., the plane remained grounded. “The hostesses kept stalling, saying we were waiting for confirmation to take off, but by 12:30 p.m., they asked us to disembark,” he said. The new takeoff time was rescheduled for 2:45 p.m.

In a later update, the Redditor explained that the flight crew informed them the delay was due to missing parts that another flight needed to deliver, with the delivery flight expected to arrive at 2:30 p.m.

The post sparked a range of reactions from social media users. One person commented, “Are you traveling for the first time? Airport prices are always this high, and T3 has more food options.” Another suggested the delay might be due to SpiceJet combining passengers from two different flights to cut costs.

Others weighed in with advice, including one person who suggested, “Bring food from home instead of complaining—airport food is expensive everywhere.” Another added, “Airport shops have high rent and overhead costs, so the food prices reflect that. This is the case at airports globally.”
