On Friday, ‘Merry Christmas’ star Vijay Sethupathi made headlines as reports emerged that he had been approached to play a crucial role in Bollywood director Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayan’. There has been no official confirmation on this from the filmmakers but this news set social media on fire. The director is said to be in talks with Vijay Sethupathi to play Raavan’s brother, Vibhishana. In the Ramayan, Vibhishana defects to Lord Ram’s side even though he is Raavan’s brother. He is known for his righteousness, wisdom, and loyalty to the path of righteousness.
Nitesh Tiwari is looking to make ‘Ramayan’ a grand film with some of the best acting talent in India. Last year, there was news that he had signed on Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Alia Bhatt as Sita. Pan-Indian star Yash was said to have been approached to play Raavan in the magnum opus but again, there was no official announcement on this. If Nitesh Tiwari manages to sign on Yash and Vijay Sethupathi for his ‘Ramayan’ then it would be a big casting coup.
‘Ramayan’ would be produced by Nitesh Tiwari and Namit Malhotra. In an interview last year, Tiwari said he was very confident about how his film would turn out. “I am also a consumer of the content that I create and if I’m not going to offend myself then I’m very confident that I might not end up offending anybody else,” he emphasized. However, he has not made the official announcement about his film. Expectations are that it would be a Diwali 2025 release.
