Adding to that, the film collected ₹0.23 crore from its overseas run since its re-release, bringing the total September re-release earnings to ₹1.80 crore. Combined with the ₹0.30 crore earned during its earlier re-release in February this year, Veer-Zaara’s additional box office collections contribute to a grand total of ₹102.60 crore globally, finally crossing the coveted ₹100 crore mark.
When Veer-Zaara was originally released in 2004, it had raked in ₹61 crore at the domestic box office and ₹37 crore overseas, totaling ₹98 crore. Over the years, it earned an additional ₹2.50 crore from 2005 to 2023, adding to its legacy. With the success of its re-releases, the romantic saga has cemented its place in the ₹100 crore club—a major milestone for any Bollywood film, especially one that’s two decades old.
With National Cinema Day offering tickets at a discounted price of ₹99 on September 20, Veer-Zaara is expected to witness a surge in attendance. Fans of the iconic film are taking the opportunity to relive the magic of Yash Chopra’s timeless romance on the big screen.
Produced by Yash Raj Films, Veer-Zaara was Yash Chopra’s third collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan after the hits Darr (1991) and Dil To Pagal Hai (1997). The star-studded cast also featured Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji, Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Manoj Bajpayee, Boman Irani, Kirron Kher, Anupam Kher, and Divya Dutta.
The film tells the heart-wrenching love story of Veer Pratap Singh (Shah Rukh Khan), an Indian Air Force pilot, and Zaara Hayat Khan (Preity Zinta), a Pakistani woman who comes to India to fulfill her grandmother’s dying wish. Their love story is cut short when Veer is wrongfully imprisoned in Pakistan on espionage charges. Years later, a young lawyer (played by Rani Mukerji) fights to free him so he can reunite with Zaara.
