The Family from Florida has lodged a lawsuit against the US space agency NASA, following the fall of debris from the ISS (International Space Station). Which crashed over their home, thus causing damage.
Fortunately, nobody came under harm’s way, However, it destroyed the ceiling and the floor. The family has reportedly sued NASA for $80,000 (more than Rs 66 lakh) for recovering expenditures related to business, property damages and other expenses etc.
Issuing a press release, the family’s law firm Cranfill Sumner has registered lodged a complaint on the behalf of plaintiff Alejandro Otero and his family.
As per The Guardian, Lawyer Mica Nguyen Worthy emphasized, that her clients have a right to demand adequate compensation for causing trauma to the family.
Nguyen also demanded that both agency and US government should react similarly to the matter, like it would have reacted, if the debris would have fallen somewhere.
Meanwhile, the Cranfill Sumner also emphasized, that US government thorough NASA can set the benchmark for establishing a responsible and secure space operations.
Moreover, the sumner has also declared, worthy is currently talking to the establishment regarding the space law and has also raised the topic of legal consequences associated with prior debris incidents.
Currently, NASA has been granted six months to respond to the accusations under Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA).
On March 8, 2024, A Metallic cylinder block from ISS launched cargo platform almost struck the family. This incident happened, when their son Daniel was at home.

Thus, resulting in the destruction of the family house.
