With just a few months remaining for the much-vaunted US Presidential Elections 2024, speculations are on the rise on who will the Republican candidate Donald Trump choose as a running mate. While the former President is scheduled to reveal his pick at the upcoming Republican National Convention, sources have told CNN who the possible contenders could be. Here are his possible choices.

Doug Burgum

North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum has reportedly received vice-presidential vetting materials from the Trump campaign. Despite this, Burgum has downplayed the speculation, stating that the focus should be on the issues rather than who might be the VP. He believes Trump can win the election independently.

Marco Rubio

Florida Senator Marco Rubio is considered a strong contender for Trump’s running mate. Six individuals familiar with the search have highlighted Rubio’s potential, noting that he checks nearly every box despite both being from Florida. A veteran Florida GOP operative confirmed that Rubio is indeed “in play.”

JD Vance

Ohio Senator JD Vance, who secured his congressional seat with Trump’s endorsement in 2022, is a vocal supporter of the former president. Vance’s alignment with Trump’s policies and his outspoken support in Congress make him a significant candidate for the VP slot.

Tim Scott

South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, who recently suspended his presidential campaign, has endorsed Trump, stating the need for strong leadership to secure the southern border. Trump has previously mentioned Scott as a potential VP candidate.

Elise Stefanik

House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik, once a skeptic of Trump, has become one of his strongest supporters in Congress. Trump has sought opinions from donors and allies about Stefanik as a possible running mate, and she has expressed her willingness to serve in a future Trump administration.

Ben Carson

Former HUD Secretary Ben Carson, a retired neurosurgeon, has a history of defending Trump. Although Carson turned down an offer to be Health and human services secretary, he headed HUD and has been involved in the vice-presidential vetting process. Despite differing views on abortion, Carson remains a candidate.

Byron Donalds

Florida Representative Byron Donalds, a loyal Trump supporter, endorsed Trump over Governor Ron DeSantis in the Republican primary. Donalds has expressed confidence in his ability to assume the presidency if necessary, making him a noteworthy contender.

Nikki Haley

Former South Carolina Governor and UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, who stayed in the GOP presidential race longer than other opponents, has been critical of Trump but eventually pledged to vote for him. Trump expressed disappointment in her but hasn’t ruled out considering her as a running mate.

Tom Cotton

Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton, an Afghanistan and Iraq War veteran, explored a presidential run but opted to stay in the Senate. Cotton has indicated that he would consider serving if offered a role but confirmed no discussions with Trump about the VP position.

Tulsi Gabbard

Former Hawaii Representative Tulsi Gabbard, who left the Democratic Party in 2022, has shown appreciation for Trump in recent months. Despite her past as a Democratic presidential candidate, her independent stance and recent support for Trump make her an intriguing potential VP pick.
