US President Joe Biden has instructed the US military to assist in Israel’s defense against Iranian attacks and intercept missiles targeting the country, according to the White House National Security Council (NSC). NSC spokesperson Sean Savett, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), mentioned that both President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are closely monitoring the situation from the White House Situation Room, receiving consistent updates.

“President Biden directed the US military to aid Israel’s defense against Iranian attacks and shoot down missiles that are targeting Israel,” read a statement from the White House. Additionally, the White House announced that Biden’s previously scheduled call with rabbis ahead of the Jewish high holiday season has been postponed.
The US had also intervened in April to defend Israel from a joint Iranian missile and drone attack, which was launched by Tehran in retaliation for an Israeli strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus.
