To address the common concern of getting lost during the Kumbh Mela, the Uttar Pradesh government is launching an extensive digital plan for the 2025 event in Prayagraj. With about 40 crore people expected to attend, the government is focused on improving safety and convenience using modern technology.

AI and Google Integration for Crowd Management

The digital plan includes AI-powered cameras and Google navigation to manage the crowd and help locate lost individuals. Over 300 AI cameras will be installed across the Kumbh Mela area. These cameras will monitor the crowd for security and help reunite lost visitors with their families. The government will also launch a “digital lost and found centre” starting December 1 to test the system before the event begins in January.

Real-Time Social Media Integration

The plan will also collaborate with social media platforms like Facebook and X to share information about missing persons. This will help track and locate individuals quickly during the large-scale event.

Google Maps for Navigation

In partnership with Google, the government will provide digital navigation maps of the Kumbh Mela area. The maps will help visitors find key locations, such as ghats, temples, and akharas. “Google-assisted navigation will also provide locations of ghats, temples, akharas and saints, assisting not just pilgrims but also saints and seers,” an official said. Additionally, AI-powered face recognition technology will be used to help identify and reunite lost individuals.

AI Chatbot for Visitor Assistance

A new AI-powered chatbot called “Kumbh Sahayak” will assist visitors by offering information in over 10 languages. The chatbot will act as a personal guide, providing navigation help and updates about events. It will ensure that both domestic and international visitors can easily navigate the area and stay informed.

Digital Kumbh Museum for Interactive Experience

The government is also building a “Digital Kumbh Museum” in Prayagraj, investing over Rs 21 crore. The museum will cover 10,000 square meters and accommodate 2,500 visitors at once. It will showcase interactive exhibits on the “14 gems of Samudra manthan” and provide insights into past Kumbh Melas in Haridwar, Nashik, and Ujjain.

This digital initiative aims to modernize the Kumbh Mela experience. It will improve safety, guide visitors, and preserve the event’s spiritual and cultural significance.
