At least four labourers were killed when a boundary wall of a prominent housing society – Jal Vayu Vihar – in Noida’s Sector 21, not far from Delhi, collapsed on Tuesday. Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, expressed his condolences for the loss of life and directed senior officials to conduct rescue operations on a “war footing.”

“The Chief Minister has instructed senior officers to reach the spot immediately and conduct relief work on a war footing. He has expressed condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased and wished speedy recovery to the injured and directed them to make proper arrangements for their treatment,” his office said in a statement.

According to the Noida district magistrate, the labourers were given a contract for drainage repair work near the residential township. “We’ve been told that the wall collapsed while the labourers were pulling out bricks.” “It will be investigated,” Suhas LY stated. The injured are being treated at the district hospital as well as the nearby Kailash Hospital.

When the wall collapsed around 10:15 a.m., 13 workers were performing drainage repair work adjacent to it. According to officials, they were hired by the Noida Authority and had nothing to do with the boundary wall. A video shared by news agency ANI showed relief efforts underway at the accident site. The debris from the boundary wall was being cleared away with a bulldozer. Ambulances and firefighting teams have been dispatched to the scene to assist with the search.

“Unfortunately, four people died. nine people were shifted to hospital for better treatment. NDRF and Fire Brigade teams are conducting the last research mission. FIR will be lodged and action will be taken,” said Noida Police commissioner Alok Singh.
