A man from Hardoi district, Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 22-year-old niece, with whom he had an extramarital affair, after she decided to marry someone else.
The accused, Manikant Dwivedi, reportedly disposed of his niece’s body in an under-construction building and threw her mobile phone onto a bus to mislead the police.
According to authorities, Mansi Pandey visited Manikant’s wife’s home for Raksha Bandhan but did not return, prompting her father to file a police complaint against Manikant. The father accused Manikant of taking Mansi away. Manikant was subsequently taken into custody and questioned.
During the interrogation, Manikant confessed to a two-year affair with Mansi. District Police Chief Neeraj Kumar Jadaun told NDTV, “Recently, Mansi informed him that she wanted to marry someone else. This angered Manikant, and he choked her to death.”
Police revealed that Mansi’s body was found in an under-construction building and has been sent for a post-mortem examination. In an attempt to divert suspicion, Manikant had discarded Mansi’s phone on a moving bus.
Mansi’s father, Ramsagar Pandey, had dropped her off at Manikant’s home around 3 p.m. on Monday. He said, “We went to our native village, then I went to Lucknow. On Wednesday, Manikant called me, claiming Mansi was missing and her phone was turned off. He said she had eloped, but I suspected him and filed a complaint.”
Pandey also revealed that Mansi’s wedding was scheduled for November 27. “Manikant did not want that to happen and had been urging her not to marry,” he added.
