In a bizarre incident, a man allegedly stole sugarcane from a farm in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district. Following which, the man was beaten to death, the police informed on Sunday.
Two people have been arrested in connection with the incident. Ramdev Yadav and Shaukat Ali, who are both residents of Bahraich, were named as the defendants. The victim, Mubarak Hasan, a native of Paduha, was accused by the police of stealing sugarcane from farms. He was apprehended by the accused couple on the evening of November 30 while taking sugarcane from their field.
The victim attempted to flee after the accused attacked him with kicks and punches after being caught red-handed. One of the defendants grabbed a stick during the altercation and struck the victim in the head. The culprit fled the scene, leaving the victim behind as he fell to the ground.
The body of the victim was discovered in the sugarcane field the following morning, and the police were notified.
Following an initial investigation into the murder case, the police detained Ramdev and Shaukat within 48 hours of the crime coming to light.
A reward of Rs 10,000 was also announced in the names of the accused, who have been charged under IPC section 302.
“The victim’s body was found on December 1, and two accused namely Ramdev Yadav and Shaukat Ali have been arrested,” SP Bahraich Prashant Verma said while speaking to the media on Sunday.
“Mubarak used to steal sugarcane from fields of accused. On the night of the incident, they caught him and beat him up. He died after being hit with a stick on his head,” he said.
