A Canadian police officer has been suspended after attending a pro-Khalistan protest outside a Hindu temple in Brampton, according to a report by CBC citing authorities.
The officer, identified as Harinder Sohi, was reportedly filmed holding a Khalistan flag while other demonstrators chanted anti-India slogans. Sohi, a Sergeant with the Peel Regional Police, was seen actively participating in the rally.
Peel Regional Police acknowledged the circulation of a video showing an off-duty officer involved in the demonstration. “This officer has since been suspended in accordance with the Community Safety and Policing Act,” Media Relations Officer Richard Chin told CBC. He also stated that the department is investigating the details of the incident and will provide further information once the investigation is concluded.

This incident occurs amidst ongoing tensions surrounding the recent attack on the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton, which was reportedly targeted by Khalistani groups on Sunday. Protestors carrying Khalistani flags clashed with individuals at the temple and interrupted a consular event jointly organized by the temple officials and the Indian Consulate.
Videos circulating on social media depict fistfights and individuals hitting each other with flagpoles in what appears to be the area around the temple.
