Despite having a criminal record, Boodarian had no prior history of burglary, and police believe he acted alone.
Glamorous American Idol music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband Thomas DeLuca were found dead in their Encino home on Monday afternoon. Los Angeles Police Department police officers arrested Raymond Boodarian, 22, in relation to the double murder.
LAPD officials report that officers were making a welfare check at the upscale White Oak Avenue home of the couple about 2:30 PM following expressions of concern for their well-being. Officers entered the home and found both Kaye and DeLuca in individual rooms with fatal head gunshot wounds. Both were dead when they were discovered.
Officials said Boodarian did not have any known relation with the couple and was not part of any organized burglary crew. The suspect was seen inside the house on surveillance video for almost 30 minutes before the couple arrived home, officials said. Police suspect that the argument started during a struggle, at which time the suspect is accused of shooting and killing both victims.
Despite having a criminal record, Boodarian had no prior history of burglary, and police believe he acted alone. The investigation is ongoing and involves multiple law enforcement agencies.
On the day of the offense—July 10—LAPD answered two reports of burglary at the address. Officers, however, noticed no evidence of forced entry and, upon receiving no answer and seeing no suspicious behavior, including from aerial observation, left the property.
It wasn't until Monday that police broke a back window to gain entry following mounting concerns. Detectives were subsequently observed combing the area with K9 units, ladders, and other equipment to gather evidence.
In a moving release, American Idol confirmed the fatalities and sent a tribute to Kaye's memory on the show:
"We are saddened to learn of the loss of Robin and her beloved husband, Tom. Robin has been a part of the 'Idol' family since 2009 and was adored and revered by everyone she met. Robin will live forever in our hearts and we offer our sincere condolences to her family and friends at this time."
