The United States and Britain conducted airstrikes on Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, the Amran governorate, and additional areas, as reported by Al Masirah TV, the Houthi-run news outlet, on Sunday. Residents and Houthi sources confirmed about nine strikes in Sanaa, surrounding areas, and Amran.
These retaliatory raids follow recent Houthi attacks on international vessels near Yemen, which began last November in response to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. The Houthi movement, backed by Iran, has voiced support for Palestinians and targeted shipping as part of this stance.
The recent escalation has disrupted global trade, forcing shipowners to reroute vessels from the Red Sea and Suez Canal to the longer, more secure route around Africa’s southern coast. The strikes underscore increasing US and UK involvement in securing international shipping lanes in response to heightened Houthi aggression.
