Britain and France are working closely with Ukraine to negotiate a peace deal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict with Russia, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on Sunday. The proposed plan is expected to be presented to US President Donald Trump, following a tense diplomatic exchange between Kyiv and Washington that drew global attention.

Speaking ahead of a London summit with over a dozen European leaders, Starmer emphasized the need for world leaders to “work together”, highlighting that “nobody wants to see” another confrontation like the heated clash between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Trump at the White House.

European Coalition to Support Kyiv

Starmer stressed that a coalition of European nations must come together to back Ukraine. However, he insisted that any ceasefire agreement must have US support to prevent Russian President Vladimir Putin from attempting another invasion.

“In other words, we’ve got to find those countries in Europe that are prepared to be a bit more forward-leaning,” he told BBC television.

He revealed that the UK and France are leading the discussions, with plans to engage the US once the proposal is finalized.

“The UK and France are the most advanced on the thinking of this, and that is why President Macron and I are working on this plan, which we will then discuss with the US,” Starmer added.

With diplomatic tensions running high and Ukraine’s future at stake, European leaders are hoping to establish a unified approach to achieving a lasting peace agreement while ensuring continued support for Kyiv.
