Trump’s Inauguration Fund Hits Dollar 170 Million: A Look at the Extravagant Costs

Donald Trump’s second presidential inauguration is set to break records. The inaugural committee has already raised $170 million, making it one of the most expensive inaugurations in U.S. history. This record-breaking sum is thanks to donations from high-profile tech executives and major donors eager to fund the lavish event.

Big Donations from Tech and Business Leaders

Many prominent figures are contributing to Trump’s inauguration. OpenAI’s Sam Altman has pledged $1 million, and Amazon has upped its donation to $2 million, a sharp increase from 2017. Meta, under Mark Zuckerberg, has also donated $1 million, possibly to gain favor with Trump. Other major donors include Uber’s CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, who gave $1 million, and Ford, which contributed not just money but also a fleet of vehicles for the event.

The fundraising efforts have been so successful that some events have already reached capacity.

A Record-Breaking Fundraising Effort

Trump’s inaugural committee has outdone previous fundraisers. In 2017, his inauguration raised $107 million. President Joe Biden raised $62 million for his 2021 inauguration. In comparison, Obama raised $53 million in 2009, with a limit on individual donations. George W. Bush raised $40 million in 2001 and $42 million in 2005.

Funding the Inauguration

The inaugural committee handles most of the event’s costs, including high-profile events like balls and dinners. The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies takes care of other expenses, such as building the stage and organizing the official luncheon for the president and vice president.

What Will the Inauguration Cost?

While the total cost remains unknown, Trump’s 2017 inauguration cost around $200 million. Much of the money went to vendors, hotel reservations, and payroll. Notable expenses included $10,000 on makeup for 20 aides and $1.5 million for venue use at Trump International Hotel.

Inauguration Day Events

Inauguration events will kick off on January 17, with the official ceremony taking place on January 20. The day will begin with a procession to the Capitol, where the vice president will be sworn in, followed by the president. The new president will deliver their inaugural address, followed by a luncheon at Statuary Hall. Afterward, the president and vice president will review military troops and lead a parade down Pennsylvania Avenue, which will feature ceremonial military regiments, marching bands, and floats. The celebrations will continue with the traditional Inaugural Balls.

Trump’s second inauguration promises to be a grand affair, with the record funds helping to create a highly opulent and memorable event.
