Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin entered the White House for a bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump to discuss trade ties between Ireland and the US. While Martin and Trump held talks in the Oval Office, a surprise move diverted the attention from politics.
For the brief moment he was distracted in the meeting by an odd feature Vice President JD Vance’s socks. The light relief involved Trump’s pointing at the socks on the Vice President, causing the people in the meeting to burst into laughter. Not being clear instantly what the type of socks had been, it was a passing moment of laughter added to high-level diplomatic discourse.

The session itself was supposed to discuss economic relations and continued cooperation between the two countries, but for a brief moment, it was Vance’s sock selection that stole the show.
