Trump administration is said to be weighing a cancellation of all military assistance to Ukraine after a contentious encounter between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House on Friday.

The Washington Post quoted a senior White House official saying the cancellation would cut off billions of dollars in military assistance, including radars, vehicles, ammunition, and missiles for Ukraine.

Zelenskyy had come to Washington to sign a rare earth mineral deal with the United States, but the session turned into an angry confrontation within minutes. Trump and Vice President JD Vance scolded Zelenskyy for what they saw as ingratitude for America’s military assistance during the last three years.

At one point during the meeting, Trump delivered a blunt ultimatum: “You’re either going to make a deal, or we’re out. And if we’re out, you’ll fight it out, and I don’t think it’s going to be pretty.” He contended that the mineral agreement, which would give US companies access to Ukraine’s rich reserves, would bolster Kyiv’s position, and criticized Zelenskyy for being ungrateful.

After the meeting, Trump made use of his Truth Social page, asserting that “Ukraine was not ready for peace” and that Zelenskyy could come back when he would be willing to make concessions. “He disrespected the United States of America in its beloved Oval Office,” Trump stated.

A White House spokesperson said the encounter was not staged. In the meantime, State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce indicated that Zelenskyy still had a chance to get the deal done, stressing that he had “choices to make” and that the deal remained on the table.
