US President Donald Trump has revealed that he reached out to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in an effort to initiate nuclear talks. The letter, confirmed by the White House, underscores Trump’s intent to negotiate rather than resort to military action.

In an interview with Fox Business News aired on Friday, Trump stated:

“I’ve written them a letter saying, ‘I hope you’re going to negotiate because if we have to go in militarily, it’s going to be a terrible thing.’”

White House Confirms Outreach

The White House later confirmed the letter, stating that Trump proposed discussions on Iran’s nuclear program. The full interview is scheduled to air on Sunday. Trump emphasized that a diplomatic resolution would be preferable over military intervention.

“I would rather negotiate a deal. I’m not sure that everybody agrees with me, but we can make a deal that would be just as good as if you won militarily,” he added.

Iran Yet to Respond

Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency reported Trump’s remarks, but there has been no official response from Khamenei’s office. At 85, the Supreme Leader holds the final say on all state matters, including nuclear policy.

Growing Nuclear Concerns

The Trump administration has consistently stressed the importance of preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons. A recent UN nuclear watchdog report indicated that Iran has accelerated its production of near weapons-grade uranium, raising global concerns.

Trump warned that a decisive moment was approaching:

“Something’s going to happen one way or the other.”

With ongoing tensions, the international community awaits Iran’s response to Trump’s latest diplomatic outreach.
