During the post-inauguration speech of Donald Trump on January 20 as the newly sworn-in 47th president of the United States, he made no secret during his speech when he humorously referred to his wife, First Lady Melania Trump. Lightheartedly, Trump said, “I shouldn’t say this… I’m going to get hell when I say this, but her feet are absolutely aching. Know you, those heels… He proceeded to thank Melania for being by his side in such an excruciating and uncomfortable evening for her, for her feet killing her.
Then Trump joked about Melania’s hat: “It was almost blown away by the brisk D.C. wind.” As he spoke, he chuckled over how the gusts “were lifting her up off the ground.” Melania laughed but didn’t seem to find it terribly amusing as she kept a distant demeanor.
The First Lady wore a custom double-breasted navy coat by American designer Adam Lippes and a matching boater hat by Eric Javits for her attire. She paired the outfit with black leather gloves and dark blue suede Manolo Blahnik pumps. She had her look coiffed tastefully to coordinate with her husband’s navy coat, marking a more polished look than she displayed in her earlier first lady attire choices, including structured, military-inspired dresses and skirts in neutral tones, during her earlier term from 2017 to 2021.
