Trump Envoy to Confront Iran in Oman, Says Talks Are ‘Not Negotiations’

Washington, D.C.: The United States has confirmed that Steve Witkoff, President Donald Trump’s close friend and special envoy, will meet Iranian officials in Oman on Saturday. However, the U.S. government has drawn a clear line—this is not a negotiation.

State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce emphasized during a press briefing that Witkoff’s mission is to deliver firm demands regarding Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

“On Saturday, there’s a meeting. There’s no negotiations,” Bruce stated, making the administration’s stance crystal clear.

No Nukes for Iran, Says U.S.

Bruce reiterated Trump’s long-standing position that Iran must never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon. While the president supports diplomacy, she warned that the consequences could be severe if Tehran refuses to cooperate.

“President Trump has made it clear—he prefers a deal over the obvious,” Bruce said, hinting at military action without explicitly stating it.

Hope From Tehran?

Despite the hardline approach from Washington, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed optimism, saying a deal is still possible if the U.S. shows “goodwill.”

But the tone from the U.S. suggests a different kind of meeting—one where demands are delivered, not debated.

Why Oman?

The neutral ground of Oman has often served as a quiet host for backchannel diplomacy. This weekend’s meeting continues that tradition, though Trump’s team appears focused on ultimatums over discussions.

With tensions high and nuclear concerns front and center, all eyes are on Oman this Saturday as Trump’s envoy delivers a message that could shape the future of U.S.-Iran relations.
