Trump Considers Banning Mainstream Media From White House, Welcoming Podcasters Instead

During a recent podcast Triggered, Donald Trump Jr revealed that his father, President-elect Donald Trump, had considered removing traditional mainstream media journalists from the White House press briefing room. Instead, he suggested for a space to independent journalists and podcasters with large followings, such as Joe Rogan.

Trump Jr shared this idea during a conversation with political commentator Michael Knowles, who questioned whether it was time to “take away” the seats traditionally held by mainstream media outlets like The New York Times. In response, Trump Jr announced that he and his father had discussed the possibility of offering press room access to more influential media figures, citing frustrations with the mainstream media’s treatment of the Trump family.

“If the New York Times has lied, they’ve been averse to everything, and they’re essentially functioning as a marketing arm for the Democratic Party, why not open it up to people who have larger audiences?” Trump Jr remarked, suggesting that podcasters and independent journalists could provide a more balanced perspective.

The idea surfaced during a flight with his father from a SpaceX launch with Elon Musk. The conversation turned to the podcast world, with Trump Jr mentioning popular figures like Rogan. However, logistical challenges remain, as Trump Jr acknowledged that the idea of having podcasters attend daily briefings, especially those with bases outside Washington, such as Rogan in Austin, Texas, would need further consideration.

This notion reflects the broader tensions between the Trump family and traditional media outlets. Trump Jr has repeatedly criticized outlets like The New York Times, calling for apologies for what he views as biased coverage.

Trump Jr’s comments also highlight the Trump campaign’s ongoing outreach to younger, tech-savvy voters, particularly those who support his MAGA movement. During the 2024 election cycle, Trump appeared on several podcasts, including those hosted by the Nelk Boys, Theo Von, and Logan Paul, further strengthening his ties to Generation Z.

As the January 20 inauguration approaches, Trump is set to take office, with both President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden expected to attend the ceremony.
